Recently tensions have risen again over the issue of roads, so what I suggest is that we freeze the construction of unnecessary roads and formally give the go-ahead to others which are worth finishing.
This map outlines the various roads. We finish building the blue ones, because that ties everything up. We pause or undo the red ones, because we don't need them (if we need them in the future we can restart construction at the time). Orange A I wasn't sure about, because it's not needed but it would make the plot more workable - I lean towards turning it blue. Orange B would just become part of the dirt track, so we'd turn it into dirt.
The purple area's not all that important, I was just wondering what's going on there.
The second part of the proposal is that, if we put a freeze in place, we introduce a mechanism for approving roads on a case-by-case basis. That sounds a lot more technical and formal than it actually is, which is just that whenever someone wants to build a road they make a post to the subreddit explaining where they want it to go and why they want to build it. They leave that post up for a couple of days, so that anyone with issues has time to raise those issues and discuss them. If there aren't an issues, or the issues raised are resolved, construction can proceed.
I know that might sound unnecessary, but once we get into the habit of consulting everyone via reddit I don't think it will seem so bad. Certainly, it'd be better than someone building a road and then finding out people have an issue with it. Reddit is also the best tool we have for discussing town projects, because Minecraft chat and Discord don't let everyone take part because a lot of people aren't around at the time of discussion. Reddit gives everybody the opportunity to have their say, regardless of timezones and real-life commitments.
