What is Stockcraft?
Post Body

Short answer: Stockcraft is Civcraft but with non-renewable resources plugged in for FactoryMod recipes. Instead of using carrots, wheat or mob drops like leather, Stockcraft will use blocks like dirt and sand, which have a finite amount on the server. However, these non-renewable factories, which simulate real life factories that run on coal and oil, can soon be used to build renewable factories, which simulate wind farms and solar panels. This post contains many of the details as well.

Conceptual ideas (or things I'm thinking about doing):

  • To not turn into bergecraft, i.e. run into lack of popularity, I'm considering offering a monetary reward of $20 (through PayPal) to the first group that builds a nether factory (which will be achievable only through a tech tree of factories and recipes, going from non-renewable to renewable). At this point the experiment will end and the server will freeze.

  • Also, to combat people simply tearing up the server for factory recipes, I'd like to also offer a monetary reward of $10 (through PayPal) to the most aesthetically pleasing town or society on the server as a sort of cultural victory, at the time when the first nether factory is created and the experiment is over. people will decide whether they want to be industrious or focus on aesthetics, however both options will require people to protect their towns from grief and theft.

  • I know Mojang has made monetizing a server illegal, however I'm not sure of the legality of paying people to play on one. Anyone know if that's cool?

What this will achieve:

1) People could sell "stocks" in their "company" in exchange for the resources they need to build the factories, or to build their aesthetically pleasing town. Think of people selling "10 shares of Farmland Industries for 40 stacks of dirt," style posts. People receiving shares get a cut of the $20 prize money, should that company win. Also companies could offer public stock options, so imagine IPO posts on the subreddit where companies list the materials they have and their holdings and investors offer to buy shares.

2) People would grief others' projects to further their own interests, rather than simply to create an annoyance or bug someone. For instance if you're going for most aesthetically pleasing town you might want to lava bomb the town that's prettier than yours. This will lead to mass chaos and pandemonium and all around fun times. Also people will rob and steal from others building factories to further their own interest, which means protecting your assets is as important as acquiring them (think of "Selling 10 shares of Diamonds R Us Incorporated for mercenaries to defend our wheat farm from grief" style posts).

Thanks! :D

edit: Someone should call dibs on "Scar City" as a town name now, because it's brilliant. That's a freebie from me to you.
