So, I've been thinking about possible alternate endings to this show that I love but went so terribly downhill in its last season. I'm gonna be real with y'all, I really don't like the demon world arc. And I know a lot of people don't like the portal to demon world arc and say that it all should have ended after the dark tournament but personally I think some aspects of the show, especially the fights, actually got better.

I've re-watched the scene where Yusuke dies (the second time) over and over again. Something about it just feels so powerful to me because I love Yusuke as a protagonist and it feels like he's come full circle. I dont want to see the guy die but there's something so poetic about how he sacrificed his life the first time because he severely undervalued his life and the second time he did it knowing that he was cared for and was willing to give it all up for a greater cause. Yusuke changes so much throughout the series and I love that about him.

The question I've been pondering is: what if Yusuke stayed dead after he was killed by Sensui? The demon world arc and the whole demonic ancestry thing just feels like a giant ass-pull to me. It came out of absolutely nowhere. And the fact that spirit world was able to seal up the tunnel so easily only makes Yusuke's sacrifice that much more meaningless. As much as I love Yusuke, I think it would have been better if an enraged Kuwabara killed Sensui and carried on Yusuke's legacy. It was even hinted at during the fight against Rando that if Yusuke died Kuwabara might take his place as spirit detective.

This is all purely speculation, and honestly it's no surprise that Yusuke was brought back when they couldn't even keep Genkai dead. I'm just curious what some other fans of the series think about this.
