I botched the stain, but I realized what mistakes were made in the process. I didn’t use pre wood conditioner, and I didn’t clean the wood thoroughly enough to name a few. So yesterday I went out to get some pre stain conditioner, and when I was choosing it, I didn’t pay attention to whether or not it was for oil based stains or water based stains. I bought oil based conditioner, when I had a water based wood stain. I don’t have the money to go out and buy a different conditioner, so I may have just screwed myself over. Has anyone tried using oil based pre conditioner with water based stain? Does it still work?
