Hey all. I live in the So Cal area and mainly stick around southern Tulare county. There is an interesting stretch that I am hoping to get some information on, but I am doubtful as it's pretty untraveled area, but hey the last time I asked about one of these I did find someone who had been!
The trail in reference, is one that follows the South Fork of the Kern River up past the Canebrake Ecological Reserve. The South Fork flooded pretty badly this year and the gates to the Ecological Reserve still remain closed, so you can't park in the lot for trail access right now, and I am having trouble getting any answers as to when it will reopen.
Beyond that, had anyone ever backpacked past the defined trail once you get to the river? It seems pretty mild around that area and this would be a 25 mile stretch until you connect to Kennedy Meadows.
Anyone been? Is it cool to leave your car in the lot overnight when it is open? Or anyone here a secret member of the Fresno parks crew who can get me some inside info?
