Spain, Early 1939
The SWF will be putting together it's own air force so pressure is taken off of our comrades in the Eagle Legion and allow us to have even greater superiority over the skies of Spain. They will train with the Polish planes, and will rely partially on the Eagle Legion for assistance in training & gaining flight experience, as well as accompanying them into battle in order to gain experience there.
A snowy field in Catalonia.
Eugene had some experience flying old biplanes in order to dust crops; in fact he believed that was one of the recruiting factors which the SWF was looking for; one of the other guys he had talked to so far was formerly a pilot in the Spanish Air Force, before he defected, but the other four guys, wherever they were from, had been recruited because they had answered "Yes" when asked if they had ever flown crop dusters. The training planes in front of them, which were currently being prepared by a few French pilots from the Eagle Legion, were sort of like the crop dusters; he hoped maybe they were a little safer to fly, though. And, of course, he would have to fly a good measure higher than usually needed for crop dusting.
Eugene gulped nervously as one of the French pilots came over to the group.
"Ze planes are, how you say, ready, if you have any volunteers."
The Monarchist-Pilot-Turned-Communist volunteered immediately with something to the effect of "I'll show these farm boys how it's done, don't you Comrades worry.", and before Eugene could stop himself, he felt him raising his hand and saying something to the effect of "I-I guess I can try..?"
Eugene found himself having a helmet and scarf put on him and sitting in a plane with the French instructor behind him barking commands for how to start the plane. He looked to his right as the old pilot got the plane started on his own, and in spite of the protests of the Frenchman, started taking off already and vowing to do some fancy flying tricks for the rookies. He and the instructor watched with concern as he immediately started doing spins and loops in the air. Eugene hoped he could do that, but y'know, also hoped he wouldn't have to do that right away. Once he got the hang of the controls. There's no way that barrel roll is that hard, right?
Right. Definitely. The new pilots of the Pilot-Workers have got this.
