Is the Coaction Drift test bugged?

While farming Octavia, me and a friend started the test that rewards Coaction Drift. We started doing it and at the point where you have to go into the holes, the panels closed after stepping on the platform inside the hole, trapping my friend there.
There was nothing I could do to free him either :/
When encountering the room later for a second time it was the same, but we jumped out before we got trapped.
Did the test change in a way that I'm not getting or is it just bugged?
