Today, mid-tier producer, Luca Mining Corp. (Ticker: LUCA.v or LUCMF for US investors), shared that it has begun an exploration drilling campaign at its Tahuehueto gold mine, located in Durango State, Mexico, marking the first major exploration program on the property in over a decade.Â
LUCA operates two producing mines in Mexico's Sierra Madre mineralized belt: Tahuehueto and Campo Morado.Â
The Campo Morado mine in Guerrero State produces copper-zinc-lead concentrates with precious metals credits and is undergoing an optimization program to enhance recoveries and cash flows.Â
The Tahuehueto mine, a new underground operation, is in its commissioning phase and aims for commercial production by year-end.
Tahuehueto features a large epithermal gold-silver vein system, with four veins that form the basis of the current resource and 14 additional veins that are yet to be fully explored.Â
These prospective veins extend across 11 km, compared to the 4.5 km currently included in the resource models.Â
Over the next 4-6 months, LUCA plans to complete 5,000 meters of diamond core drilling across 26 underground holes.
Drilling is focused on both infill and step-out drilling, aiming to identify the vertical and lateral extent of mineralization, including higher-grade zones identified on Level 23, which averaged 3.30 g/t Au over 20 meters, with grades reaching up to 65.04 g/t Au.
