The last few years have really cheapened the prestige of the WWE title. I grew up watching wrestling in the 80's and 90's, but stopped watching between 2004 and 2013. What I saw happen last night at Survivor Series really annoyed me; to the point that I'm considering quitting wrestling again.
When I was a kid, someone having a short title run meant they were champ for 3-4 months! As for a reign lasting 1 day/less than 1 day? That would happen once every 4 or 5 years. If I remember correctly, we've seen 2 or 3 less than 1 day reigns in the last 2 or 3 years! All this is taking away from how the title is perceived by the fans. I think its funny that the WWE goes on and on about how they beat WCW, yet happens to be doing a couple of the things that brought that company down, continuously putting the heels over the faces, and not pushing the new generation of wrestlers. In my opinion, the WWE fans wanted a face champion after what seems like years of continuous heel champs or face champs that the fans hated (I'm looking at you Cena). They had that chance last night, and could have built up Reigns as a champ that people would have gotten behind. Instead they chose to put the strap on a makeshift champ who's going to keep down the younger more talented wrestlers on the roster. It's all very Hogan-Nash-Sting-Goldberg-circa WCW 1999 esque.
