Abject Poverty Craft: Its Mods and Its Systems
Abject Poverty Craft is a block-game oriented ‘Civ-Server’ that seeks to simulate resource scarcity in pursuit of a semi-realistic, player-driven, simulated world. An integral part of the concept is a hands-free admin philosophy such that players are free to make choices completely unfettered and play the game how they see fit. With these philosophies in mind, players need the ability to defend their territory, belongings, and infrastructure in a way that is secure, but continues to allow for complete player freedom. Additionally, mods are usually added to adjust the civ-server experience to better suit the goals of the concept.

The Mods of Abject Poverty Craft
Abject Poverty Craft is an iteration of the Civ-Server concept in Vintage Story. The following is a run-down of the systems and mods put in place for Abject Poverty Craft in Vintage Story
Vintage Story Block Reinforcement
Towny-style block claiming from Minecraft is disabled on Abject-Poverty craft. This style of claiming has been the default in both Minecraft, and Vintage Story, however is not used at all on Abject Poverty.
Under block reinforcement blocks are reinforced using the plumb and square tool. When a block is reinforced it takes more breaks to actually break the reinforced block. The number of breaks is determined by the material used to reinforce the block. The following is a chart of the reinforcement materials and the number of breaks they reinforce blocks by:
Stone: 50
Copper Ingot: 150
Bismuth Bronze Ingot: 300
Tin Bronze Ingot: 300
Black Bronze Ingot: 400
Iron Ingot: 800
Block reinforcement works with player groups, allowing players to share the blocks and areas they have reinforced with others. The following are the commands:
/bre [grant|revoke][playername][use|all|none]
/bre [grantgroup|revokegroup][groupname][use|all|none]
grant/revoke grants a player permissions to use your player reinforcements. grantgroup/revokegroup grants a group permissions to use your player reinforcements. Presently reinforcements cannot belong purely to a group, as they are your personal reinforcements, hopefully this will change in the future. ‘Use’ grants permission to use things such as doors and chests, ‘all’ grants full reinforcement permissions, ‘none’ will also revoke group permissions.
Type in game:
/group help

Shackle Gear
Shackle Gear is a prison system developed for Vintage Story and Abject Poverty Craft by Novocain. Players can make a “Shackle Gear” item (can be searched in the handbook) that allows them to imprison or ‘shackle’ another player. When a player is shackled their build/break, and pvp abilities are completely disabled. In the future it is hoped that greater granularity can be added to shackle gear in regard to permissions.
A player’s shackle cannot be dropped or logged out with it must be placed in a chest, otherwise the shackle will immediately despawn upon logging or drop, and the shackled player will be released.A player’s shackle also costs an upkeep cost dependent upon the amount of time a player is logged into the server. If the upkeep cost cannot, or is not paid, the shackle will despawn and the shackled player will be freed. This upkeep is paid by right-clicking while holding a players shackle with charcoal in the inventory.
The command for Shackle gear is as follows:
/sgfuellog (shows who last fueled your gear)
Collectible Exchange
Collectible Exchange is a shop mod developed for Vintage Story by Novocain. Collectible Exchange allows players to create shops that can be used to autonomously buy and sell goods.
To create a shop, first place the desired input good (cost) in the first slot of the chest. Next, place the desired output good (thing you are selling) in the second slot of the chest. Third, look at the chest and type:/ce create
Chests can contain multiple transactions/exchanges. To list all of the exchanges contained on one chest look at the chest and type:
/ce list
To update a shop chests exchanges look at the chest and type:
/ce update
Civmods
Civmods is a mod developed for Vintage Story and Abject Poverty Craft by Novocain. Civmods is a collection of smaller mods that are vital to Abject Poverty Craft. These mods bring the following changes:
- Beds are now used to set spawn like in Minecraft.
- The Plumb and Square can be used in the offhand to auto-reinforce and auto-bypass one’s own reinforced blocks while building.
- The Addition of Snitches
Snitches are essentially security cameras. Snitches are a lectern that records player activity within an area around the snitch. Players that are not in the snitch’s group will be recorded. Block breaks, and movement are recorded. The record of player activity is stored on the snitch and can be accessed by clicking the lectern.
A complete log of activity on a snitch can be exported to a breakins.txt file using the command .snitchexport.
The Lectern model for the snitch was contributed by Tenebrae.
