"I'm vegan. I eat meat. We exist."
I think most of us have seen that tweet by now. My quote probably isn't perfect (and it might be Facebook) but that doesn't matter if you know what I'm referring to.
In the most literal sense, vegans can eat meat but vegetarians can't. It's kind of ironic, and, if the reasoning isn't obvious, it's because vegetarianism is a diet and consuming meat violates that regardless of intent, and regardless of what's possible and practicable. If a vegan does their best to avoid meat but something they eat still contains it, they're still vegan.
My problem is the people that willingly consume animal products. The "at a wedding out of state" vegans. The "at the restaurant I didn't vote for" vegans. The "my god I really don't want to cook and McDonald's is the only place open right now" vegans. And I'd like to dedicate a special "fuck you", several "Fuck you, you fucking shitter"s, to the people that want to call themselves vegan, or "mostly vegan" when they choose to eat cheese, and one very special message to the people at /r/GateKeeping that get really offended when they hear the actual definition of veganism.
When you want the label but refuse to do the bare minimum needed to meet the criteria for that label, that tells me you have no ethical backbone. Why in the fuck should I have any respect for your opinion? Trying to get the label implies you think veganism is the ideal. You believe it's the right thing to do. But you don't do it. Why? Because you're an ethically inconsistent shitter that wants social prestige but are too fearful to stand up against society and say "No. This is wrong and I won't be a part of it." DAE bacon?!
Why the fuck do you want to even fight for the label if you don't care about the animals? Go keto if you want to be congratulated at every turn while still eating animals. They love your kind over there.
