nanoHD vs AC Pro
Post Body

Hi all, thanks in advance for helping me out here.

My situation is this: my house isn't huge, but has interior brick walls and pipework that makes getting wifi access in certain rooms somewhat difficult. I would rather not go the route of getting the house cabled to provide wired backhaul, so I'm basically limited to going with a mesh system and after doing some research decided to go with ubiquiti. I'm now the proud owner of a UDM, but I haven't yet ordered any of the satellite mesh units.

I'm not clear whether the AC Pro or the nanoHD is more suited to my needs. I note that the AC Pro has faster bandwidth than the nanoHD on the 2.4ghz channel, which I am expecting is going to be the primary wifi in at least some areas of the house. Does the AC Pro also provider better coverage on that channel?

Also, is there any way for me to work out in advance where might be a suitable position for the mesh unit? For instance, in the next big room away from the access point, my Samsung S10 gets a signal rating of somewhere around 10% in the controller for 5g access (somewhere around -89dBm). I assume that's not going to be good enough, but does anyone have a rule of thumb guideline for what would be acceptable? I appreciate that the fact that my phone's antenna is not going to be as good as the mesh unit's is going to make this an impossible question to really answer.
