Hey all, this is more of a vent/rant than anything, but if you're experiencing similar issues and have had successes perhaps you can share some knowledge:
I've been taking classes on my Post-9/11 which has been going pretty damned great actually. There have been cases where I had to drop some classes. I didn't update my address with the VA, so they were sending letters to my old address (the tenants of which did not inform me). I didn't find out until my credit report alarm goes off that I have a delinquent account. I called the VA and they told me I have two outstanding debts from classes I had dropped and that I owed amount X (~500) and amount Y (~400). I asked what my options were, and they offered a payment plan of 50 and 40 per month. Sweet, says I. I have been paying 50 and 40 separately, as advised by the VA rep on the phone to ensure that the amounts were received individually to signify they were meant to be paid to X and Y respectively. When I pay 50 to amount X, I receive an updated balance (450, 400, 350 remaining etc). When I pay 40 towards amount Y, I get a letter saying I paid 40, but it would show the same balance of amount X. I got a letter today saying that I have a delinquent account (amount Y) that I need to pay. I have been paying towards amount Y for months. Luckily, I still have the letters saying I paid. I am unsure of what else to do because that is a second delinquent account on my credit report in the last 4 months (my first delinquencies ever -- my credit history is "my thing"). So, for any VA/GI-Bill buffs out there...I am unsure of how to deal with the VA as it has never been for anything like this and I thought I had it settled with my first call.
1) Do I have a leg to stand on? Meaning, I have been paying 40 towards amount Y but it doesn't look like it was applied to anything. Are my payment receipts enough?
2) If the tenants of a house do not return my VA letters to the VA, nor forward them to me, can I dispute this on my credit report? I would personally like to set their car on fire for jacking this up, but for now I'll take the high road and vent on reddit.
Any info would be helpful. S/F
