To be clear, I hope not to have to do this but want to have a clear idea of what I'm getting into just in case the necessity presents itself.
The syllabus to this course clearly explains that we aren't to fret about grades we aren't happy with - any assignment can be resubmitted any number of times for a re-grade. In fact, the syllabus goes on to say, this is expected. Much "of the learning from this course will come from the feedback cycle . . . don't get discouraged . . . learning is trial and error . . . you'll find that [profession redacted so as not to dox the instructor or program] is trial and error too . . . that's why the course has been designed in this way."
It was reiterated during class meetings that it's ok to be disappointed at initial grades received, but we shouldn't be upset, this was part of her process. You can think the process is whack or not, but it did work for the first four weeks of classes. Lots of 1/3 on my written assignments, resubmitted based on feedback and grades improved.
Then the grading just stopped. Seriously, nothing after week 4. She'd offer apologies during class meetings and then reiterate how great the system would work for us because we could continue - all the way up until grades are due if we wanted - to rework assignments for that A. She apologized again during our last class meeting and sent out another email on Christmas Day to let us know she was (finally!) starting to get caught up.
As of this morning - you know, the date her her grades are due to be submitted to the university - she's caught up to week 6. I've done all the work, I'm happy with the effort I've put in, and I consider the class a success in terms of my own learning.
But the grade? As long as it's enough to progress in my program I'm not going to kick up a fuss, but based on what's in Blackboard she's still grading as if she expects resubmittals which obviously aren't happening at this point (and even if they do, it's not as if she'd have time to grade them). As far as I'm concerned if she submits a grade that I consider non-satisfactory then I can point out that she hasn't upheld her end of the bargain as the instructor.
I hope this doesn't need to happen, that she'll take the fact that she's behind into consideration when determining her grades, but...Has anyone been through the grade appeal process before? Would I have a leg to stand on here?
