So the comments in my post got me triggered and I thought that okay, I have to say something. Why? Because Jason is one of the best professors out there and it pains me that he is receiving shit from so many people for just caring for them that much.

So to give context I was a TA with Jason for Fall 2019, and it was my first time as a TA. Our first TA meeting happened on the Friday before the classes were to start, I enter the room and see this guy who is all fully prepared with notes about what all he needs to cover, and just so so so well organised. The way he was conducting himself, the way he was organised and the way he had an entire plan for the semester was truly to be seen. I could sense how eagerly he wanted to teach the students and wanted them to learn. He also asked me to be present in one of his sections while he reached, and I was in such awe of the way he taught. I felt so jealous of the students that they are able to learn such IMPORTANT concepts from such an amazing prof. With his in class worksheets to the assignments, he curated them so brilliantly so as to maximise learning. He just had and still has one goal :”To make the student learn all the concepts well so that they DONT STRUGGLE in the future”. He is literally one of the most passionate professors I have ever come across and that is clearly evident in his mails and posts.

Now as for the students not able to pass the course, as TA I came across all range of students. They were some who absolutely excelled, they were some who really struggled but worked hard and there were some who struggled and just didn’t want to work hard enough. The ones who worked hard, often visited office hours and made an actual effort to pass the course. If you are struggling to pass the course then you actually did not put in the effort that was required. And Jason is absolutely right, the course covers topics which are CRUCIAL for becoming a good computer scientist/ researcher. So if he is not passing you, take it as a sign that you are not ready to become a computer scientist just yet as you will struggle in the future.

Jason cares for his students a lot, and their learning is what he keeps thinking about. He is so so passionate that I can’t even express in words. If a prof of his caliber and his awesomeness receives such shit, then maybe you don’t deserve good professors at all.

For passing the course, only effort from your end is required and if you struggle Jason and his TAs WILL ALWAYS HELP YOU. But you seriously can’t expect to spoon feed you right? Please stop ranting against such amazing professors and out in the effort that is required for a course.

And as for you Jason, I know you are going to see this. You are absolutely amazing, you will get through this and this too shall pass :). Don’t let this get you down in any way.
