Whether we like it or not there are too many animals and not enough homes.
I read online or talk to people IRL and a lot of these people have the attitude of if you can’t pay for a 5-10k emergency vet surgery for your pet you shouldn’t have a pet at all.
I find that argument absolutely absurd.
Listen I absolutely love my current cat. But if I had a bill for more than $2,000 for a major surgery or cancer treatment or something like that I would get another cat instead. My cat has lived 13 years already and has had a great life. I can take on another rescue cat
Having the attitude of only wealthier people or people who should spend their entire life savings on a pet is ridiculous and absurd.
Most people can’t afford that. Most pets I assure you are just happy to have shelter, food, and water. In the unlikely event of something like that happening they still lived a good life up to that point.
Poor people can be good pet owners too.
Hell, on the farm...if a nonworking pet got sick... it died. No taking it to the vet. That's how my dog died. How two cats died. It was just the way it was. You didnt spend money on a pet that was not valuable ,,, as in an animal that worked.
