Cautionary tale...
Post Body

If you don't like this post, please just DV it and move on. I don't need to be second guessed or lectured to by people who aren't paying my bills or suffering the consequences of my decisions.

So I was on an assignment that I LOVED.. working hard, like harder than I have ever worked, and I got cancelled. I got cancelled because they filled my position with someone local. Okay...fudge, life sucks, this is the nature of the beast. My Recruiter, who was changing agencies, had a line on a job that was a similar arrangement, great pay ($5/hr more than the now last contract), paid housing.. YAY. I relocated over 300 miles from where I was, but didn't make any living arrangements 'cause, well, they were going to be paying for it once the contract started. Updated BG check cleared... supervisor is supposed to call me for a brief 'cross the T's dot the I's interview to ensure I'll work out... (for that kind of money, trust me, I'll make it work). So I'm in a hotel, on my own dime. Day one no call. Day Two no call. Day 3 I give my agency till check out time to get the call done. Nothing. So here I am a few days later, stinky AF 'cause I'm living in my car. Now, yes, I probably could have waited another day or two. I certainly had/have the money to pay for a hotel... but seriously.. you (contractor) are going to pay an outrageous sum of money PLUS pay for my room....and you ain't got the time to call me and get things going? I can only BEGIN to imagine what a bullet I dodged. Am I possibly lying to myself and having 'sour grapes'? Maybe. But while I'm not happy about being in my position, I'm happy I stood up for myself. I'm happy I told a prospective employer who was offering a lot of money to 'stick it' because they obviously didn't respect that I was paying out of pocket to WAIT FOR THEM. I hope nothing like this ever happens to anyone reading this. My takeaway is that just because a recruiter says they have a job and a relationship, it doesn't mean they actually do.
