This is my youngest son sitting on top of what's left of his 2019 Toyota Corolla after he was hit head-on by a drunk driver in Tennessee, at 50mph. The drunk driver was driving a Ford F-150.
When Tennessee State Police arrived on the scene of the accident, they thought my son couldn't have possibly survived the accident, and so they didn't even look for him. Instead, they found the drunk driver inside his F-150 unconscious and called an ambulance.
My son took out his pocket knife and popped the airbags that deployed and saved his life. He then had to kick his way out of the vehicle. When he exited he stood there and waited for the Tennessee State Police to even notice him.
His injuries were minor: a few small cuts and some pain in his chest/ribs where the airbags deployed at full force. All told, he walked away.
When the tow truck/wrecker driver arrived, he couldn't believe my son survived. His word were "if you were driving anything other than Toyota, you wouldn't be here" as he'd just finished another head-on accident involving a Ford Fusion with less damage and both front passengers died.
And so I just want to say the following: By the grace of Almighty God my son is alive. And to those Toyota Engineers who focus on safety and preserving life in Toyota's -- THANK YOU!!
I own a 2023 Tacoma TRD OR. Youngest son's replacement vehicle is another Toyota Corolla. Oldest son is ditching his non-Toyota vehicle and switching to Toyota himself. We're Toyota believers and now a Toyota family.
Thank you Toyota!!
