40M. I've had 4-5 bouts of tonsillitis in the past 5 months. Usually one tonsil swelled up to the point of making it hard to swallow food. Not painful just a big annoyance. Also low grade fever usually accompanied the swelling. 2 trips to the ER and 1 to my PCP, all times getting prescription antibiotics and steroids which temporarily fixed the problem, only to come back a month later.
It took awhile to find an ENT doctor who was available for consult, finally got that meeting before Christmas and determined surgery was best option.
Day 1
Had surgery this afternoon. Left tonsil removal had to be cauterized according to my surgeon. Some jaw pain but I think that's because of having my mouth open for the surgery. Right now I am not in much pain but the swelling is 100x worse than it was when I had tonsillitis. I can barely speak right now. My salivary glands are in overdrive and I feel like I'm drowning in my own saliva. Tried to sleep inclined with a few pillows but can't find a comfortable position where I'm not having to get up every 5 minutes to spit. Very little blood in my spit thankfully. I also feel like mucous is draining from my sinus to the back of my throat and I can't clear it by coughing .
I have prescription zolfan for nausea (took one) and hydrocodone acetaminophen liquid for pain. I haven't taken that yet. Drinking sips of water as I can. Sometimes feel like choking on it.
This has been my 8th lifetime surgery, having had sinus surgery last year which was brutal recovery. Not looking forward to next 2 weeks.
