Why is Legend's ending very misunderstood?

Post Body

I'm always surprised at people's perception of the ending, when it was very clear the developers intended for it to be an unfortunate misunderstanding between Lara and Amanda.

In the ending, Amanda is talking TO PRESENT LARA to pull the sword, not Lara's mother. Lara isn't able to understand this, and her mother thinks Amanda is talking to her and pulls the sword in a panic. This misunderstanding is both tragic and brilliant, because it shows that Amanda was reluctantly willing to help.

Yet, many people think to take this ending at face value and think Amanda was just sabotaging and talking to the mother, which is not the case at all here.

What do you make of this?
