Help with three week itinerary

Going to Thailand in January for three weeks. I want to be in the city for the first half of my trip and a beach town on the second half. I was considering Sukhumvit for 2 weeks and than Pattaya for 1. Do you guys think two weeks is too long for Bangkok? Also is there a better place to go than Pattaya for the second leg? I want somewhere relaxing and with nice scenery. Also, Id ideally like to fly out of the same airport i fly into so id prefer the two cities to be relatively close, and any advice on transport to and from would be appreciated.
