So here's the story.
I put in my two weeks online (on Workday) on November 9th, and set my last day as November 23rd (a full two weeks). I asked around, and everyone that I asked said doing it online is enough. No physical paperwork or anything is needed.
This Thursday, I looked at the schedule for next week and saw I was still on it, and even scheduled for the service desk on Thanksgiving Day. So since it seemed those shifts would need to be covered, I spoke with my HR rep just this past Thursday morning. Here's the conversation that happened:
"Hey, got a minute?"
"Sure"
"So I put in my two weeks 2 Saturdays ago. So this Saturday is supposed to be my last day. However I see that I'm still on the schedule for next week?"
"What? I wasn't aware you were leaving. You put in your two weeks?"
"Yes I did it online, on Workday."
"Ohhh, the system probably still sent that to [Retired Store Manager] , so nobody here knew or got a notification about it"
(Context: old store manager who retired about a month ago)
"I didn't know that would happen..."
"You should've still talked to me or [Manager's name] about it anyway... So you can't work Thanksgiving?
"No."
"What did I have you for?... Oh wow, the service desk...You can't work at all that day?"
"No."
"Can you at least work through next week to be fair, since I didn't know you were leaving?"
"Okay..."
"I have an 8-4 shift available on Black Friday, so I can take you off Thanksgiving and put you down for that shift instead? Would that work?"
"Okay..."
"Go tell your manager about the changes, please?"
"Okay."
I don't get how, even though I should've talked to a manager or something about it as well, I literally put in my two weeks and fully worked them, yet somehow they have convinced me that I owe it to them to work an extra week because of a mistake in their system? I LITERALLY fucking quit and somehow they're making it seem like I did something wrong. Meanwhile I'm 18, this is my first job, and I just wanna be with my family for Thanksgiving week.
People are saying I just shouldn't show up, But I genuinely like my GSAs and fellow TMs and don't want them to see my name on the schedule all of next week and think that I just literally bailed on them for one of the busiest weeks (I can't talk to them, I won't see them again since today is my last day) And I don’t really wanna stress them since they’d be short one cashier the whole week.
My coworker said in the end, the only thing that not showing up might mean is that I can't work for THIS target again. and possibly any target. I wanted to work at one in the state I'm going to college in like next summer, but I feel like if I just don't show up next week, when I apply to another Target, they'll try to contact my previous one.
Am I in the wrong here? Should I go next week, or make today my last day?
TL;DR: put in my two weeks online (2 weeks ago) without talking to anyone, saw I was still on the schedule for next week, asked about it, HR rep said she didn't know and asked me to still work next week to "be fair".
