Post Body

  • Total budget and country of purchase: I would love to know what I can get for under $1,000, but I would be willing to spend up to around $1,800.

  • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. I will be using it for work since I remote into my actual work machine. I will be commuting with it daily via train and bus and plan on using it when it transit. I want something light weight with a good battery life. I would be open to 2 in 1 form factor but it isn't a driving consideration.

  • How important is weight and thinness to you? This ranks pretty high for me, it needs to be very easy to take with me and use on the go.

  • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. In order of preference: Windows -> Linux -> Mac

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. I am pretty comfortable with anything 14" or more, I was looking at the razor blade stealth but 12.5 inches seems like it would be too small. I would be open to smaller as long as people think it could handle multiple windows open comfortably.

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I will be doing some machine learning, so I'll need a good amount of ram and a pretty speedy processor. For really burly stuff I will be going to the cloud so I don't need a dedicated card. I would maybe like a thunderbolt 3 port so i have the option of getting an external graphics card if I ever want to do any gaming on it.

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I would like to be able to do some gaming, but it is not a driver.

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I would like high quality keyboard and touchpad since I will be relying on it quite a bit when commuting. A definitely want a touch screen.

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I have a dell latitude E7470 for work and really like it, but since I remote in for most of my work I would rather have my own machine that i can have more freedom with. I was also looking at Lenovo X Carbon and Razor Blade Stealth, but there are so many options out there that I am having a really hard time narrowing it down.
