I have been on the SAVE plan making payments since January when my IDR application was finally processed. You can imagine my surprise when a few days ago I received correspondence from MOHELA that my account was being placed into admin forbearance for the month of April, and another correspondence stating my loans had been put on the SAVE plan beginning May 18th with a payment amount equal to what I’ve been paying for months now. I called to see why I was placed on this admin forbearance since I don’t want to lose a month for PSLF and they said it’s because they accidentally re-processed my IDR/SAVE application. She said in order to make the month count for PSLF, she can submit a request to reverse the forbearance but it could take up to 15 days. I told her my due date is on the 18th of the month, so wouldn’t that make my payment for April late? She said yes.
So my options are as follows: 1. Allow them to reverse the forbearance, be punished by way of late payment for April since the reversal effective date will be beyond my due date. 2. Keep the forbearance for the month of April, resume my payments as normal in May, be punished by way of having April not count toward PSLF.
I did nothing wrong here, yet either way I lose.
