Just rewatched the Prequels and this really bothers me. Anakin goes from warning Mace about Palpatine, to burning down the temple in like a day.
I get that the Clone Wars animated series has a lot of development in it, and I get that the movies show him having issues (Padme, his mother) but how many casual movie goers are going to watch the anime tie in too?
If you take the movies alone, Anakin's fall seems totally rushed as he throws aside his loyalty to the Jedi and goes off the deep end in about two scenes. Even after taking out Mace, he asks 'what have I done?' These doubts seem to last the short hop across town back to the temple. Anyone else feel that it was just really badly done?
Edit: I feel the movie could have done with an additional scene after the battle in Palp's office. One showing Anakin meditating on what he's done. As he meditates, he hears the voices of all those who have guided him but gradually, the voices of Qui Gon, Obi Wan and Yoda fade, overridden by his mother's dying words, conversations with Padme and overlaid with Palpatine's conversations. All of these fade out to the sound of Padme's death scream and when Anakin opens his eyes, you can tell he has chosen to fall. I get the emperor wanted to move quickly against the Jedi while they weren't ready and before Anakin could have had any doubts but for me, showing Anakin willingly chose to fall would have felt less jarring.
