Everyone has seen the ludicrous rent prices being asked all over. If you're trying to buy a house good luck people are putting in offers on places they haven't even looked at. I think most of this pressure on housing is being caused by investors. Not by first time home owners. Housing is a necessity if I went around town and bought up all the toilet paper only to sell it back at a dollar a sheet I'd be driven out of town. I think we should stop people buying up more houses than they need.
My very uninformed opinion is that companies should not be able to own houses, and that an individual can only own one house. I'm sure there are hundreds of logistics as to why this isn't possible, but... Yeah.
If two people get married they can each own a home, 1 per individual. Inherit grandma's house? Absolutely you need to make the choice to keep it or sell it.
Sorry, my reply wasn't responding to Air BnBs specifically, just my general feel on the housing market. But taking the long way around, I would assume that most air BnBs are a person's second (or more) house.

Cabins are a different story, they're not considered when we talk about the housing/rental market. Summer homes in places where there are major home ownership or rental shortages shouldnt be allowed.
