How do I take advantage of the NZaps fire rate over the Splattershot?

I've always used the NZap instead of Splattershot, because I thought the fire rate would make it way better at inking turf. But after seeing http://s17.postimg.org/sfqlwlh0f/Inking_Eff.png , I tested the default Splattershot vs the NZap '89 for myself.

The Splattershot seemed to fill my special guage quicker and spread across the ground better, and I didn't notice any significant disadvantages. So ignoring subweapons and specials, what advantage is the NZap supposed to have over the Splattershot?

I'm probably making a mistake somewhere and missing something.
