I am looking for some advice, assistance and maybe meet up with some locals when making an upcoming trip as fulfilling as possible. We are a group of 3 guys in their mid to late 30s, single and doing a semi-short trip through California this October. Our flight will land from Alberta, Canada in SFO for noon on a Tuesday and our return flight will be at the break of dawn the following Tuesday. Not much time to fit it all in, but we will do our best.
Flights have been booked, a vehicle rental will be made for the duration. A tentative schedule is in place with maybe 3 days in San Francisco, 3 in LA and 1 in San Diego before we need to fly back out again a week after landing in SFO. San Diego will be jilted due to lack of time to truly do it justice, but we will be sure to take in the San Diego Zoo and either the Gas Lamp District or Seaport Village.
What I need assistance with is suggestions and advice when it comes to LA and San Francisco. Finding a local that would be willing to have some fun while showing us around town would be awesome. With such limited time and the attempt to keep expenses to a moderation, we are looking for the best experiences each city has to offer outside of cheap hotels and hostels. I know there are the standard tourist traps like Disney, Universal, Fisherman's Wharf, Alcatraz etc... To be honest, I would like to stay away from these places and get a more authentic and unique experience. Please help us...
