Hey all!

As there's been a lot of SCA drama in the past 24 hours and as it's tipping it down outside (boo) we thought it would be a good idea to update you on a few things. We're also going to use this space to be absolutely crystal clear on where we stand on subreddit monetisation.

SCAUK was started as a companion subreddit where people could use the knowledge they learned in SCA to find effective local products. We hoped to be a sister subreddit to SCA, but despite their public statements that they were working to get more non US voices on board, the top mods had absolutely no interest in working with us. The final nail on the coffin for us was when they announced their website. Once it was launched, we stopped any attempt to work with SCA, and stopped trying to reach out to UK users on SCA. By this time they had shadow banned /u/Firefox7275 from SCA by having her posts removed through AutoModerator. We hoped that word of mouth would help people find us.

Yesterday we found out that the top SCA moderators (at least three known people) had been using the website to funnel money and free goodies into their own pockets all the while keeping the rest of the mod staff and website contributors in the dark. Moderators who disagreed had been silenced and removed, users who brought up queries had their posts removed from the subreddit. In some cases they had any other posts related or not auto removed using AutoModerator. This had been happening in secret for months until it all finally came to a head last night. The mods were finally removed from Reddit entirely last night by the Admins, the subreddit no longer has any ties to the website and now everyone is watching to see what will happen next.

Here is a full summary of everything that's happened so far.

We want to be very clear. We do not believe in making money off you, or using you to get eyeballs for blogs or websites, be it ours or for anyone else. SCAUK is a community, built by your contributions. We are not a focus group, or a consumer base for any company or brand. We believe that our job is to simply maintain a space for people primarily from the UK (but everyone is welcome) to discuss their skincare journey. That's it.

It seems that not everyone was involved in monetisation, just the three top mods that were removed. Now that they have been removed by the admins, we are looking forward to working with the new mod team to get the best information out to you.

We welcome your thoughts and your suggestions because this space is for you. Anything we can do to make it better, we are all ears.

Hope your Saturday is going well!

Love,

Your /r/SkincareAddictionUK Moderation Team
