A Hershey's kiss is shaped like it is because if you insert the pointy end first, it fits perfectly in the mouth of someone who is puckering their lips for a kiss.

I imagine that when the machine is plopping the chocolate out of a tube onto whatever cooling rack mechanism conveyor belt type thing, it's like it's giving little kisses over and over. It just kisses them onto the belt. Muah muah muah over and over. I dont think when they named it they imagined sticking it in someone's puckered lips but I could be wrong
