Maybe it's just my neighborhood, but why are people shooting guns?

It's not NYE, or Halloween. Even that is kinda dumb, but Xmas eve? Y'all are shooting guns in the air? Not trying to make this a Nextdoor post but, WTH?!?
Edit: Yes City Heights, sort of. A little more East. And I know the difference between fireworks and gunshots. I do hear some fireworks, but these are definitely guns. Like I haven't heard for months since they closed the police gun range down...
