I have a simple layout for 8βx9β6β bathroom that has room for a separate shower and tub! My space saving bathroom design.
Read the image notes about layout and sprayers. There is one type, the shower glass is 44β wide, not 4β. The 4β difference gives better room turning radius and an easier time getting a chair in and out is the shower. Shower pan is envelope cut 2βx4β black tiles, center drain. Main floor is 2x4 high CoF white tile. The color delimitation is for the minor 0-1/2β transition that we have a custom aluminum βrampβ made piece of jolly for.
If 8βx10β or larger, I can get a full 6β tub, or a full 4β wide shower. But an adjoining family room layout along the βtopβ wall may not allow it. The top wall and wall along the toilet will actually have solid 3/4 ply panel behind wedi for unlimited grab bar placement.
The body jets are set at 18β and 32β to allow a wheel chair user to βcar washβ rinse themselves, but could be raised to 32β and 50β for able body users, or add 2 for a total of 6 body jets.
The jets are intentionally aimed at the glass wall, and the rain head can be angled at the bench, or used to keep legs warm while a seated user uses the hand sprayer by the bench.
Moen voice control valve allows any, 2 combo, or all three fixtures to be used. Hand sprayer is also mounted on a 4β tall pole from 6β6β to 2β6β allowing for a grab bar use and multiple position wand placement.
The bench will be a flip down teak and stainless style. It is actually removable and has 3 somewhat stylish covers for the remaining brackets. Blocking for these will be set, but the bench may never be mounted. We contemplated actually doing a stone floating bench with a 2β piece of hydronic slant fin tubing under it, so when the heat is on, the bench is warmed. And if I get my way; that is what will happen. (Iβve already tested this, and with the pipe mounted through two wall hung brackets, with the aluminum fins just 1/8β under a 1β thick quartz stone, the stone stays a nice 80Β° with the thermostat set at 68Β° and gets to 88Β° with it set to 78Β°(which is the heats max setting).
We are still debating over a free standing air jet tub with floor mount filler and hand sprayer, or a under mount air jet tub. The free standing tub would actually be bolted to the floor, and have hydronic heating under the vanity, and along the both walls next to the tub.
No heated floors but the space below is conditioned space with open rafters.
The vanity is fully hanging on four brackets and the 12β drawers are actually not attached to the counter , at 20β high with a 1β thick quartz top, and pull out on felt feet, to act as seats for a caregiver, or a parent bathing a child in the tub. There is a full linen closet outside of the bath, but we are also considering pulling the lower left corner of vanity/drawers, and doing a 14β wide 20β deep pantry type cabinet that actually has a full pantry style slide out where four shelves all come out with the one slider, and itβs a powered slide.
There is a vent directly over the toilet with a heat lamp/blower included.
Not mentioned, vanity is 19β deep as this works for plumbing/knee clearance, faucet reach. The sink faucet is preset temp and motion activated. Motion activated soap dispenser as well.
Total materials: wall hung toilet, heated water and blower bidet seat, pan and waterproofing, tile and setting material, glass, air jet tub, vanity, brackets for bench and vanity, as-is described with freestanding air jet tub is total $11,850.00, with labor being estimated at $6k plumbing and electrical, including a a $25hr helper for 40 hours. I will demo existing, frame, and I do my own tile and waterproofing as a pro.
Yet, I want comments to see if I missed anything that perhaps is obvious to you all.
Also, this will have a wave to open hydraulic driven barn door outside of the bathroom.
Iβm actually doing this for my parents. And thinking of doing the same exact bath directly above this one in their master. And then secretly adding a pitless through floor elevator while they are away for two weeks in June. That would allow them both to live on either the upper or lower floor as they age. My father is currently using a walker and has been in a wheel chair. And at 72, heβs not getting younger.
As a master bath, if I do it, this will also have a skylight half over the shower and half over the tub.
