An unforgivably late thank you post for most of the RAOC mail I've received this year. Very sorry for not being on top of things! :-/
u/libertyprogrammer – Thank you for the postcard of proteas from South Africa! (Which you sent waaaay back in February!) You’re right, I do appreciate pink flowers! And it was cool to learn about a flower I’d never heard of before. I haven’t been so active on RAOC this year but I definitely have a holiday postcard with your name on it :) I hope you’re doing well!
u/han2ying1ju3hua2 – Thank you for the postcard of your campus! I liked the hand-painted art. I also enjoyed the assortment of postage stamps, the different art styles are so cool to see. My favorite was the shiny horse.
u/fjsm18 – Thank you for the Polaroid postcard from Lisbon! I’ve had to write travel articles about Lisbon, and after doing the research, I put it on my travel list. It seems like a beautiful city (and I hear, not as expensive as some of the top European destinations) and I really hope I get to visit someday.
u/disco_sweat – Thank you for the botanical postcard of a cannonball tree! You wrote in reply to my Thailand trip earlier this year… yes, I’d agree that Thailand is an interesting and incredible place, to use your words! I know it has a certain rep as a travel destination, but there’s just so much more to it than cheap booze and lady boys. Fun fact: It’s the only country in Southeast Asia that’s never been colonized! I think that alone makes it so fascinating, culturally.
Edit: The mystery sender is u/_kevinmp! Thanks to u/CanaMeow and u/englyn for the help! Mystery sender from HK: Someone sent me a “magic” Keri Smith postcard and told me to put it under my pillow so I’ll have good dreams. I haven’t tried it out yet! But I do love that it’s good for 3 uses. Thank you for the creative message, mystery sender! Please PM me if you read this!
u/alyssakx and the mod team – Thank you so much for the lovely Congratulations card (my photo didn’t capture the shimmery envelope!) and the bunch of RAOC photography contest cards you sent over. I’ve already sent out several of them. :)
u/wisdombabies – Thank you for the Avengers postcard and the funny Peter Quill quote! I asked for this postcard because it has Doctor Strange. I love the mystical and magical, so he’s one of my favorites.
u/alaskan_sloth – Thank you for the New River Gorge National Park postcard! I’ve had to write about lots and lots of US national parks for work (I wrote for a few hotel/vacation home booking sites) and it was just astounding to find out about these magnificent parks. I was too young to really appreciate Yosemite when my relatives in CA took me to visit, but I really hope I’ll be able to visit at least a couple other parks in the future.
u/StephanieTay x 7 – Thank you for the many lovely postcards you sent me this year! I really liked the art on the postage stamps, too (both the musical instruments and the architectural ones). My favorite among the cards you sent is the kueh and kopi one, because I love the color palette. I’ll have to show my brother the bak kut teh one, he really loves that dish and always has it when he goes to Singapore. Thank you so much for your generosity.
u/kogeliz x 8 – Thank you so much for the blank postcards!!! They were a really cool bunch, I really enjoyed the assortment. I actually love Uglydolls, and sloths and cats! I really like the NSFW one with the tiny figures getting it on atop an apple. :P Thank you for your generosity!
u/CanaMeow x 2 – Thank you for the two incredible little snail mail packages! I can’t gush about them enough. I love all of the cat stuff, of course, and that shape postcard in particular is so fitting for hot and humid Manila! I really appreciated that photo you took of the tiny flower on the camera lens (tiny things are so precious), but my favorite of all the things you sent would be the postcard of British post boxes! I studied for a bit in London and the UK holds a special place in my heart. It was lovely to read about your holiday – and having discovered and become obsessed with Outlander this year, I’m very jealous of your trip to the Scottish Highlands!!! Thank you again! <3
