The most common “Lion is OP” argument I hear is that he is no skill press a button kill. While I agree that he is OP, it’s not instant influence that makes him OP. Ubisoft did what they wanted in terms of the global abilities they wanted, but both of these are instantaneous abilities.
Instanteous influence operators, in small quantities, are not going to kill the game, no matter how much your favorite pro league streamer says in one match. If we only get instant ability operators, it’ll ruin siege, but we are still getting classic style operators. For example, Vigil from last season does not directly affect enemy operators. Rather, he cloaks himself.
The largest argument against Lion is that he denies rotation instantly. While this is true, it is best to save it for post-plant, timed with fuze, jackal, dokkaebi, or other vital times of the match. Simply spamming 4 will not grant you the influence you want. You have essentially 15 seconds to influence the round in which you can waste the majority of it with badly timed scans.
Even I agree that he needs a need, and I think Ubisoft’s nerf is going down the right path. Lower his scans and increase cooldown (another good buff would make it slightly longer to deploy his ability, like dokkaebis logic bomb). The fact that lion gains so much influence instantly is the problem. If you can instantly activate an ability that is minor influence, it’s not OP just because you pressed a button. For example, Finka’s instant influence ability is not used much at pro league levels because her influence is less up there, thus her instantaneous ability is not OP at that level as she gains only a little influence instantly.
