Why is Jaune so much preferred in the fandom?

This is me asking due to reading some RWBY fanfiction, but I guess this can questioned generally.
You'd think he'd be the main character with how much he's portrayed in FF, fanart, etc. He just fits the dorky, talentless underdog trope (and largely doesn't grow until further on, in both character and in terms of his trope).
I get that Ruby isnt that great of a main character, but I just don't see Jaune as a better replacement/more beloved character imo
