So I have a few questions.
Question 1: What's a good reliable way to calibrate my RTL? I tried to match it against a few local FM stations, but it seems to let me deviate by a decent amount without noticeable loss, so I can only calibrate it within a few dozen kHz using that.
Question 2: A local FM station broadcasts what song is currently playing in the signal. I've noticed SDR# displaying this information, but rather unreliably. By the time it successfully shows the whole line, the song is almost over. Anyone know of a way to get this to come in better? I feel like it might be related to the signal not being accurately calibrated, but I don't know how the data is added to the signal. http://i.imgur.com/HZZAW.png
Question 3: I've noticed some noise/waves in my FFT. I like to run at a slightly higher resolution than default, because I like the quality of the FFT. I've noticed that when I run at the higher resolutions, I get a lot of peaks in what seems to be dead air. In the screenshots below, you can see the high res capture at the same station I screenshot above. http://i.imgur.com/GM4so.png
These peaks are noticable at higher frequencies, like my local NOAA station. This is a zoomed out FFT of NOAA 162.475MHz. The waving and spikes are what i'm really interested in understanding. http://i.imgur.com/NzF1o.png
Thanks everyone!
