Post Body

I've posted here once before a while back (it's been since deleted). I got some messages, but they didn't go quite as well as I hoped for, so I'm trying again now.

It's a bummer that even as a guy, meeting new people (regardless of gender) is still pretty much like dating; It's about finding the right person with chemistry, common interest, mindset, ideologies, etc., otherwise the relationship/friendship doesn't quite last.

I'm happily married with my lovely wife but I'm looking for friends who can fill in some of the void that she unfortunately can't help with. It's not anybody's fault; For example, she likes to read fiction but I prefer non-fiction, I like cooking but she doesn't. I'm hoping to find friends who share some of the interests that I currently don't have with my wife. It's a lot harder to find someone like that especially in Japan, but I guess I'll try anyway.

I speak English and Japanese as my two common languages now. I also speak decent Chinese (Mandarin). My wife says my English is terrible but we all know that Malaysian English is the most expressive English in the world (I'm kidding).

I work as a web developer. I like studying, cooking, illustrating, playing and making games. I have no dietary restrictions (I can eat literally anything besides exotic food like bugs...), I am curious about many things (for example, I don't particularly like cars, but I'm always fascinated by how people can be obsessed with all things related to cars). I am somewhat healthy, although I wish I had some motivation to exercise as I get older. I lurk around social media like Instagram and Twitter, I follow some news if they're popular enough to appear in my timeline, but I don't particularly seek out news that I am not involved in.

I like watching most movies except horror, because (as my wife put it) I'm overly sensitive. I cry easily during sad scenes in movies. I don't have preference for any medium; I like Steven Universe, and I also like The Office. I like Good Will Hunting, and I also like Fast and Furious.

Realistically speaking, although I have many interests, I don't think it is humanly possible to indulge in them all at the same time, so I tend to alternate between my interests for months at a time. For example, I used to illustrate a lot, but I haven't drawn anything for the past 6 months. Or, I like to play all sorts of games, but recently I've only been obsessed with Street Fighter 6.

At the moment, I'm at the point of my life where I'm just looking for friends who can go out for drinks or a meal and just talk about anything a mid-30 year-old person would talk about... In my case; Not having enough time for hobbies, planning to buying a house, game design, career choices, raising a family, or something.

When I meet up with friends or acquaintances, I usually spend the time talking about the news, memes, our life stories, studying, or our interests. Sometimes we visit somewhere of interest (like a new themed cafe in the neighbourhood) while we continue our conversation. My wife says I talk a lot, but I have met friends who talk a lot more than I do, and I've been told I'm a good listener as well.

I hope I've described myself enough to give you a rough idea of what kind of person I am. If you're interested to talk, I'd be happy to hear from you. If you're in Japan/Tokyo, I'd be happy to meet up for food too.
