Hi all,
I got two free Powerwall 2's installed as part of the referral reward. They are currently configured to charge on solar only, and backup when grid is down. I lose power about once every other year so they mostly just look good on my wall.
I recently purchased an off-grid cabin in the mountains and am incredibly tempted to remove the powerwalls and Gateway (and reconnect my solar to the grid as it was before). I'm comfortable doing all the wiring (I diy everything except the Powerwall install). However have 2 lingering questions. The electricity needs are low, except for the well pump.
1) Can I just connect a Generator as "the grid" to ideally charge the batteries during winter (or just use when solar is low)?
2) Given I'm not a certified installer, am I going to run into programming issues when I try to turn the system on?
