[SPOILERS S5 FINALE] The finale felt like a season finale and not a series finale
Post Body

Just finished season 5. Sigh. So, let me get this straight:

  • Ross is off on his next wild adventure, far from home and family.
  • The French have yet to be dealt with.
  • Dwight and Caroline are thinking about having another kid.
  • Morwenna and Drake are entering parenthood.
  • Jeffrey Charles and Cecily will apparently remain forever separated...?
  • George will take Valentine and leave Trenwith behind.

This feels like a SEASON finale, not a SERIES finale. I felt like plot points were being set up for the next season until I remembered, oh wait...

I feel like another season could’ve explored -
- Ross and George actually becoming kind of friends, completing their evolution. - Dwight and Caroline having another kid. - Morwenna and Drake being parents. - Jeffery Charles and Cecily having some kind of resolution to their storyline now that her father is apparently out of the picture...would there be a possibility for them to reunite? Did she even mean everything she said or was she just doing it to protect him?

I enjoyed the first half of this season (especially George’s madness storyline, quite interesting, emotional and new) but the latter half, and especially the finale, was a bunch of drama and nothingness to me. Obviously it has its moments, but it felt like we were just rehashing storylines over and over again. Ross is still a reckless, lying idiot. Demelza is still too good for him. The one change I loved, George actually having a conscience and coming to the rescue, didn’t actually lead to anything at all. And what was the point of Tess? What was the point of Ned? So much time spent on so many new characters, who ultimately contributed nothing to the overall plot in the end. Uuggghhh. Why why why why.

Anyway, just my opinion, but I thought I’d share it and see if anyone else felt similarly. I still love this show but the final season ended up a major disappointment.
