Hello everyone! My husband has his own English Tutoring business mostly for Accent Reduction classes and English Practice Conversations. I'm not from the States but he is a Yinzer born and raised, has been living in Pittsburgh for 40 years now. He started his tutoring business for 20 years and was satisfied with the amount of work that he used to have. He did not want to have a lot of work back then, because he volunteers in his church and he is an international missionary- had served many communities overseas in different countries. Now he is back here in Pittsburgh but with a wife and two under two years old kids. The living situation is hard because in 2022 he only made 18k and in year 2023, 22k. We were overseas in Southeast Asia, and that kind of income was more than good enough in there but not here in the States. We can't afford a house yet and are trying to save up for the downpayment and stuff, and also trying to increase income for 2024.
Are there any laws or regulations we need to abide or is it permitted to hand put flyers or brochures for marketing his business outside schools-Universities here in Pittsburgh? Like, CMU? Are we allowed to do that? Who do we ask permission if so?
And also,
Any idea how we can get more clients? We tried Google Ads but maybe we are not spending more? We don't have a lot to spend for marketing sadly. We are planning on trying old school- style, handing out flyers or business card. Thank you all.
I know a woman in Squirrel Hill who used to do this, I bet she has the connections
