In the campaign I'm currently a player in there have been some undead that weren't evil. We have two Champions in our party (Sarenrae and Milani and are their respective patron deities) that lost their powers temporarily for destroying a non-evil, non-hostile but intelligent corporeal undead creature. Reason for the power loss being that while they were undead, they were innocent and harming innocents is against the champion code; additionally there might've been a chance the undead could've been saved from their unlife, however small that chance might've been.
We are completely fine with this and it ultimately lead to some memorably scenes, however we as players are a bit confused as we always thought that undead are generally evil and something to be fought against when playing holy warriors.
As most of us are also GMs, we are wondering what the greater implications for all this might be, especially with Book of the Dead and the skeletons ancestry on the horizon.
Can certain undead "live" alongside good champions and good clerics? Is it dependant on the deity? What would the general populace of Golarion say? What are your own thoughts on this?
