My(father) ( m-24) never texts nor calls to ask “hey what’s up?”, or “how are you?” NO PROBLEM ( I didn’t do that either ), but recently realized that he won’t text (we’re not phone callers) to just say “hi”, but we text all the time on our hobbies.. so ok, I guess.
I text more.. (he’s in uni, doing 2nd internship this summer in another state )… I obviously text him more than he texts me. When texts me it’s to show me something about our hobbies, not “how was your day?”, etc. , or an accomplishment at work etc. I’m proud.
How often are you texting your adult kids? Once a week, daily?
No, I’m not texting him hourly, lol.
EDIT: I called my father weekly and call my aunt(like my mom) weekly more bc they were - are always like “why haven’t you called me?”. I DON’T want to become that father. I see he has a similar non chalante convo when his mom calls him: “hi”, “good”, “ at dad’s”, “ nothing”…. Lol one word replies, even when I’m out of the room but yes “I over hear”.
Last summer nor this summer I traveled up to see him. I let him adult. I rented him an apartment up at the area for the internship. His mom has traveled up, just an FYI.
I asked for a Teams call a couple weeks ago when I was buying a new weekend toy car (‘10 Camaro SS M6) for us when he gets back. He agreed but was like “why?” . It was great seeing him.
My friend’s wife is always having face time calls with her parents, I wish it would be that way with us. She’s 38 though.
