Here's the problem. I'm addicted to PS3. I've had my 60 gig launch unit since the day that the system came out and just last week (oddly, a week within my friend's PS3), I got the YLOD.
Here's my situation. First off, a damn Gamefly game is stuck in there. Second, the thing obviously won't turn on and it has all of my data on there.
Good news is that in some sort of weird premonitory way, I figured that I should back up all of my saves a few weeks ago, so most of that is covered. Bad news is that I didn't do a "full backup", so I'm going to have to download the ridiculous amount of games that I've purchased over the life of my PS3 (that, and the stupid copyright protected save files BS is stopping me from copying a bunch of my stuff).
All of this said, is there a way to temporarily get my PS3 working instead of opening it up and reflowing the thing myself or at the very least is there a way to connect my PS3 hard drive to a PC to grab one or two saves that I've updated since the backup? I'm picking up a PS3 slim as the final solution since every fix that I've found (including Sony's $150 fix) is completely temporary.
Update: I gave up. Had it working enough to eject the disc that was stuck in there out, but it was overheating after twenty seconds and shutting down. Got annoyed, popped my hard drive into my new PS3, and formatted. I can live without a few crappy protected saves.
TLDR: My PS3 gave me a YLOD, I am very sad. I will be purchasing a slim. Can I copy this stuff over without doing a reflow? Can I just toss my hard drive into the new Slim and just lose the copyright protected stuff?
