Wasn’t Rocky Horror Picture Show slightly controversial for 1975?

I watched it for the first time yesterday and I didn’t realize there were blatant homosexual themes even allowed in movies at the time. Does anyone know of any articles or reading material about the public’s reaction to the film when it first came out?
