Why did or do older women cut their hair short?
Post Body
As a man, I’ve never understood it.
Once my grandma hit her 50s or so, she cut her hair to a short length - very short (like what is typically a “man’s” length - short short).
I’ve also seen a lot of other women over age 50 or so with similar length haircuts.
When I look at my great grandmothers, they kept their hair shoulder length or sometimes way longer even as elderly women, so this seems like a mid 20th century or later thing.
Obviously, one’s hair length is their own choice - but, at least at one time, it seemed more the norm than not that women cut their hair once they got to a certain age.
I’ve never understood it - and I’m curious as to why it was or sometimes still is the case?
