Why do British people lose their accent when they sing?
Post Body

For example Ed Sheeran, Spice Girls, One Direction, Adele, Jessie J, Leona Lewis, Sam Smith, Dua Lipa, etc.

They sound mostly American but when you see their interviews and they are just talking, their accents are so distinct. Why? Is it a choice? Style? Are they tailoring it to a wider accepted American accent? Or am I just desensitized by their influence on American music and their accents are still there when they sing?

I've always been perplexed by this perception.
