When I was at school and we’d cover WW2, with the benefit of hindsight many kids would ask “why didn’t we stop Hitler?” or “why did we let it get so out of control?” - I look around now and feel like we’re in the same place. Russia / Ukraine, Israel / Hamas, Iran Houthis / Anyone. The Russia / The West cyberwar is raging, Trump is going to get elected. It’s a perfect storm of factors and yet: NOBODY IS DOING ANYTHING. That’s the weirdest part to me. We’re all just watching it happen, just like they watched it happen in 1939. The public largely don’t care and politicians either don’t care or are stuck in a partisan battle which prevents them taking action. Is WW3 now inevitable?
I'm terrified of Putin controlling hundreds of nuclear weapons. His country has been exposed as weak economically and militarily, with a third rate army. He has demonstrated viciousness, nihilism, and apathy toward international opinion. His only true threat is nuclear war. Should he get cancer or some terminal ilness, he could make a rash decision that no one will be able to stop. Even Stalin had to work within the confines of the communist party. Putin is the head of a gangster government that has zero accountability to the people. There is nothing stopping him from bringing the world down with him when he goes.
