I have this coworker (I’ll call him Ted) who is super hostile no matter what. I’m still new at my job (this is my second full wk), so I’m not as fast as my coworkers and I’m still learning where everything is. Day one they (management) encouraged us newbies to ask questions. Said don’t be afraid to as this is obviously the best way to learn and avoid mistakes. Well…everything I ask Ted he responds with a very dramatic and obvious sigh and rolls his eyes. Day two he tried to drill and quiz me where things are already and kept insisting I move faster. If I look at something a tad longer than expected he comes out of nowhere and aggressively tells me what to do with it and doesn’t hide his annoyance. My first day of work he did nothing but complain about everything so…nice welcome. Ted seriously acts as if we have some sordid past and he can never forgive me. He gives me the look of death from across the room and I have tried just avoiding him like the plague but our shifts do crossover quite a bit…not sure how I should approach this. Should I confront him directly and ask if I did something to offend him? Should I confront a manager and mention my coworkers hostility?? I just started like 2wks ago so I don’t want to look like I’m overly sensitive, demanding or easily triggered. I’m only one of two women working with a bunch of guys, if that helps (another reason I’m nervous about bringing it up).
Edit: so last night I found out Ted is friends and hangs out with one of the managers out of work so this complicates things a bit.
