I know they can be truly awful people. I know of the damage they do. And I know they’re hardly the first people you might think of who deserve help. But to my thinking, one of the hardest aspects of the disorder to understand is their apparent inability to perceive they’re narcissists. But often, the narcissists are still family members who are still loved. I keep wondering, is there any known effective ways to help them? They usually can’t be forced into therapy; surely that’s something they have to want to do themselves, so how can they be encouraged?
In my very limited experience, even if they’re persuaded to go see a professional, it doesn’t work out well. Has anyone had any success helping someone with NPD? 🙏
