Shotgun Laws?

Hi everyone ,
Im moving into NJ from NY and legally own a shotgun. In NY outside of nyc, as long as you pass a background check you do not need a permit for a shotgun. I keep reading about firearms identification card in NJ and I'm confused if I need one to legally possess a shotgun in my new apartment in NJ. Can someone explain the process who may know?
